We need more Bea Zobel de Ayala in our country

Watching this documentary made me rekindle my kinship to the Filipino people. This proves that genuine caring, faith and love can make a difference and positive change and can go a very long way. Poignant the situation maybe, I still hope for a better future for the Filipino people. Needless to say, we need more Bea Zobel de Ayalas in our country, now.

-Sometimes in life you do things just because you love people. It makes me feel happy and fulfilled. I have so much in life that I find that in able to have so much in life, you have to balance your life, and if you don't balance your life at least a little bit, you cannot be happy.- Bea Zobel de Ayala

Election 2010

Kudos sa lahat ng teachers at volunteers ng election para sa kanilang sakripisyo at dedication towards a peaceful election and hopefully, a new, better and well defined government. I lab you all!!!

WTF x 10 to the 20th power!

Shame on you!

I voted for Gordon and Mar. Masaya ako dahil alam kong I made the right decision. Kesa naman sa iba dyan na nagpabayad o hindi bumoto for no valid reason kahit registered naman. Bawal mag-react, ok?

The rest second choice lang.

Domjullian: Sinong binoto mo?
Rosaleee: Si Gordon at si Benay
Domjullian: Ako Gordon-Roxas
Rosaleee: Ha?
Domjullian: Tanga, pwede ba yon.
Rosaleee: Hindi ko nakita. Wala talaga.
Domjullian: Manuel Roxas cya! Ano ba yan bingi ka na bulag ka pa.
Rosaleee: Ha? Ano koya?
Domjullian: Wala.
Tanga-tanga mo talaga.

Hehehe.

I used to be a Namfrel volunteer pero not this election kasi nakisabay ang trabaho. Yehey! May iba pa namang pagkakataon at panahon.

Yet another history.

Earth Hour 2010

Organizers Aim to Inspire 15 Million Filipinos in 1000 Towns and Cities Nationwide

Mark your calendars, folks: Saturday night, 27 March 2010. When the clock strikes 8:30PM, the world will once more be engulfed in darkness – and a Billion people will celebrate the biggest party in recorded history.

Now in its third year in the country and envisioned as a celebration of climate change solutions, Earth Hour Philippines aims to inspire 15 Million Filipinos in 1000 towns, cities and municipalities to switch off and join in the revelry – in an environmentally-conscious manner, that is. Many of the nation’s most iconic landmarks are expected to dim their lights in the largest call for action on climate change. Cities from around the world, from Europe to Africa, are expected to join in.

Crafted to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off lights for an hour to deliver a powerful message on the need for climate change solutions. This simple act has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world, becoming a worldwide phenomenon in 2008 and 2009 – where the Philippines placed first globally in terms of town and city participation.

Earth Hour 2009 inspired over 10 Million Filipinos in 647 cities and municipalities to switch off, saving an estimated 611MWh of electricity – equivalent to shutting down a dozen coal-fired power-plants for an hour. Earth Hour Philippines is a yearly effort of WWF-Philippines, the Department of Energy (DoE), Green Army Network and SWITCH Movement. 2010 partners include Ipanema, Century Tuna, Sustagen, Philips, Motolite, Meralco, SM Malls, Ayala Malls, Bonifacio Global City, GMA-7, ABS-CBN, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, Infinit-1 Communications, FocusMedia Audiovisuals, Leo Burnett, ECC International, Dig It All, Friendster, Discovery Channel and National Geographic.

Sectoral consultations have yielded strong commitments for more sustained efforts on climate change. Among the groups that have pledged commitments are the Archdiocese of Manila, University of the Philippines, Technological University of the Philippines, Manila Doctors College, REACT, Philippine Business for Social Progress, Ortigas Foundation, Girl Scouts of the Philippines, Manila Jaycees, Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines, Philippine Science Centrum, World Youth Alliance, Habitat for Humanity and Gawad Kalinga.

The business community has also pledged participation. Companies which have committed support include the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ascott Group, Dusit Thani Manila, Chevron, Abenson, First Gen, Jollibee Foods Corporation, Unilever, Globe, PLDT, PhilBIO and Piandré.

Earth Hour kick-off activities were launched in Davao and Cebu. In Davao City, stakeholders from various sectors led by the Green Alliance for Davao, Mindanao Business Council, Save Davao Gulf Foundation and the Davao City National High School pledged collective support. In Cebu, over 1000 stakeholders gathered at the SM City Cebu to share their collective support for Earth Hour.

The Earth Hour Philippines road show, led by Energy Secretary Angelo T. Reyes, is set to visit Iloilo, Baguio, Ilocos Norte, Laguna, Bicol, Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Tuguegarao and Clark. “Earth Hour is a simple act that emphasizes the importance of adopting energy efficient practices and lifestyles,” says Secretary Reyes. “In this season of political divisiveness, let us all bear in mind that there are fundamental values and aspirations that we all share as Filipinos and as citizens of the world. One of our common causes is the stewardship of our planet through responsible energy practices and other means. So, on March 27, let’s all get together and Vote Earth!"

Since Earth Hour 2009, each of the Earth Hour allies has advocated for the adoption of renewable energy technologies and energy-efficient practices. “Climate change is the biggest threat to the Philippines. We could lose 2000 isles to sea level rise alone – a scenario which could be made worse by dwindling natural resources,” says Earth Hour Philippines National Director Yeb Saño. “Luckily, Filipinos have a unique Bayanihan spirit – a brotherhood of kinship that unites people. Through the message of Earth Hour – that it’s time to think of solutions now – we stand a good chance of adapting to climate change.”

World Vision in the Philippines

World Vision started in the Philippines in 1957 through three orphanages in Visayas and Mindanao. In its almost 50 years of existence in the country, it has sent more than 200,000 poor Filipino children to school. Currently, it assists about 122,000 children in 34 provinces and 22 cities across the country through Child Sponsorship and community-based programs.

Today, 16,000 Filipinos are engaged in giving a life-changing investment to 22,000 children through child sponsorship. For only P20 a day or P600 a month, a child’s life is transformed every time; his/her future is secured.

The regular contributions are pooled together with other resources so the children, families, and communities may enjoy access to education, good health and nutrition; value formation; child rights protection; children’s participation; skills and leadership training; and community development projects.

World Vision believes that the pursuit of its mission requires integrated and holistic commitment to: transformational development that is community-based and sustainable, focused especially on the needs of children; emergency relief that assists people afflicted by conflict or disaster; promotion of justice that seeks to change unjust structures affecting the poor; partnership with churches to contribute to spiritual and social transformation; public awareness that leads to informed understanding, giving, involvement, and prayers; and witness to Jesus Christ by life, deed, word, and sign that encourages people to respond to the Gospel.

World Vision responds to life-threatening situations where its involvement is needed and appropriate. They are responsive in a deeper sense where complex economic and social deprivation calls for long-term and sustainable development.

Aside from its child sponsorship advocacy, World Vision also organizes, implements and actively promotes health initiatives in partnership with international organizations, government agencies, non-government organizations, private agencies and communities.

World Vision is constantly in search of the best ways to help children. Hence, it is actively involved in community development. Its Area Development Programs (ADP) seek to partner with children, their families and their communities in order to rebuild or make improvements in their environment.

World Vision Philippines is headed by the able leadership of Executive Director Elnora Avarientos.

“World Vision in the Philippines continues to be committed with children. In so doing we also want to equip their families and communities. We would like to strengthen our service to children by ensuring that their pains are addressed. We will strengthen our efforts towards economic sustainability, providing opportunities for entrepreneurship and business ventures for communities that we serve so that families can support and resource the needs for their children”.
