Mixed Nuts 008

It’s always nice to spend the weekend with family. Spent the long weekend at the family hacienda resthouse in Tarlac then drove all the way to Bolinao, Pangasinan for some bitch beach life. I miss Cairo tuloy, pero ok lang kasi enjoy naman daw cya with his prodigal mom. Hehehe. Anyway, I’m looking forward to spending another fun-filled time with family and my son, next time.

Bakit ganun?

I spent teenage college days watching these teen themed flicks( TGIS and later Gimik). The gimik casts who used to battle teenage life problems are now back to face the ups and downs of adult life. The teens we loved now face a much tougher and more serious phase in their lives.

Back to reality again, kailangang mag doble trabaho para pang school ni Cairo and my two World Vision sponsored kids. Kung may gusto kayong malaman personally about the school or may tanong kayo, I can answer some.

So circus. When will this stop? Hayyy. Vote wisely and intelligently.

Earth Hour 2010

Organizers Aim to Inspire 15 Million Filipinos in 1000 Towns and Cities Nationwide

Mark your calendars, folks: Saturday night, 27 March 2010. When the clock strikes 8:30PM, the world will once more be engulfed in darkness – and a Billion people will celebrate the biggest party in recorded history.

Now in its third year in the country and envisioned as a celebration of climate change solutions, Earth Hour Philippines aims to inspire 15 Million Filipinos in 1000 towns, cities and municipalities to switch off and join in the revelry – in an environmentally-conscious manner, that is. Many of the nation’s most iconic landmarks are expected to dim their lights in the largest call for action on climate change. Cities from around the world, from Europe to Africa, are expected to join in.

Crafted to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off lights for an hour to deliver a powerful message on the need for climate change solutions. This simple act has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world, becoming a worldwide phenomenon in 2008 and 2009 – where the Philippines placed first globally in terms of town and city participation.

Earth Hour 2009 inspired over 10 Million Filipinos in 647 cities and municipalities to switch off, saving an estimated 611MWh of electricity – equivalent to shutting down a dozen coal-fired power-plants for an hour. Earth Hour Philippines is a yearly effort of WWF-Philippines, the Department of Energy (DoE), Green Army Network and SWITCH Movement. 2010 partners include Ipanema, Century Tuna, Sustagen, Philips, Motolite, Meralco, SM Malls, Ayala Malls, Bonifacio Global City, GMA-7, ABS-CBN, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, Infinit-1 Communications, FocusMedia Audiovisuals, Leo Burnett, ECC International, Dig It All, Friendster, Discovery Channel and National Geographic.

Sectoral consultations have yielded strong commitments for more sustained efforts on climate change. Among the groups that have pledged commitments are the Archdiocese of Manila, University of the Philippines, Technological University of the Philippines, Manila Doctors College, REACT, Philippine Business for Social Progress, Ortigas Foundation, Girl Scouts of the Philippines, Manila Jaycees, Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines, Philippine Science Centrum, World Youth Alliance, Habitat for Humanity and Gawad Kalinga.

The business community has also pledged participation. Companies which have committed support include the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ascott Group, Dusit Thani Manila, Chevron, Abenson, First Gen, Jollibee Foods Corporation, Unilever, Globe, PLDT, PhilBIO and Piandré.

Earth Hour kick-off activities were launched in Davao and Cebu. In Davao City, stakeholders from various sectors led by the Green Alliance for Davao, Mindanao Business Council, Save Davao Gulf Foundation and the Davao City National High School pledged collective support. In Cebu, over 1000 stakeholders gathered at the SM City Cebu to share their collective support for Earth Hour.

The Earth Hour Philippines road show, led by Energy Secretary Angelo T. Reyes, is set to visit Iloilo, Baguio, Ilocos Norte, Laguna, Bicol, Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Tuguegarao and Clark. “Earth Hour is a simple act that emphasizes the importance of adopting energy efficient practices and lifestyles,” says Secretary Reyes. “In this season of political divisiveness, let us all bear in mind that there are fundamental values and aspirations that we all share as Filipinos and as citizens of the world. One of our common causes is the stewardship of our planet through responsible energy practices and other means. So, on March 27, let’s all get together and Vote Earth!"

Since Earth Hour 2009, each of the Earth Hour allies has advocated for the adoption of renewable energy technologies and energy-efficient practices. “Climate change is the biggest threat to the Philippines. We could lose 2000 isles to sea level rise alone – a scenario which could be made worse by dwindling natural resources,” says Earth Hour Philippines National Director Yeb Saño. “Luckily, Filipinos have a unique Bayanihan spirit – a brotherhood of kinship that unites people. Through the message of Earth Hour – that it’s time to think of solutions now – we stand a good chance of adapting to climate change.”

World Vision in the Philippines

World Vision started in the Philippines in 1957 through three orphanages in Visayas and Mindanao. In its almost 50 years of existence in the country, it has sent more than 200,000 poor Filipino children to school. Currently, it assists about 122,000 children in 34 provinces and 22 cities across the country through Child Sponsorship and community-based programs.

Today, 16,000 Filipinos are engaged in giving a life-changing investment to 22,000 children through child sponsorship. For only P20 a day or P600 a month, a child’s life is transformed every time; his/her future is secured.

The regular contributions are pooled together with other resources so the children, families, and communities may enjoy access to education, good health and nutrition; value formation; child rights protection; children’s participation; skills and leadership training; and community development projects.

World Vision believes that the pursuit of its mission requires integrated and holistic commitment to: transformational development that is community-based and sustainable, focused especially on the needs of children; emergency relief that assists people afflicted by conflict or disaster; promotion of justice that seeks to change unjust structures affecting the poor; partnership with churches to contribute to spiritual and social transformation; public awareness that leads to informed understanding, giving, involvement, and prayers; and witness to Jesus Christ by life, deed, word, and sign that encourages people to respond to the Gospel.

World Vision responds to life-threatening situations where its involvement is needed and appropriate. They are responsive in a deeper sense where complex economic and social deprivation calls for long-term and sustainable development.

Aside from its child sponsorship advocacy, World Vision also organizes, implements and actively promotes health initiatives in partnership with international organizations, government agencies, non-government organizations, private agencies and communities.

World Vision is constantly in search of the best ways to help children. Hence, it is actively involved in community development. Its Area Development Programs (ADP) seek to partner with children, their families and their communities in order to rebuild or make improvements in their environment.

World Vision Philippines is headed by the able leadership of Executive Director Elnora Avarientos.

“World Vision in the Philippines continues to be committed with children. In so doing we also want to equip their families and communities. We would like to strengthen our service to children by ensuring that their pains are addressed. We will strengthen our efforts towards economic sustainability, providing opportunities for entrepreneurship and business ventures for communities that we serve so that families can support and resource the needs for their children”. When in Doubt, Masturbate...

Warning: If you’re below 13. Please don’t attempt to read. Portions in here contain some lessons you shouldn’t know by now. Go back after a year or two, to be safe. I don’t want to see your parents nagging me here.

There are a lot of really good reasons why. Here’s some:

For married guys especially, instead of committing adultery, this is safer. Saves you from being kicked out of the house in the wee hours of the night. For guys in relationship, this will keep you faithful (Semper Fidelis!). Its also guilt free.

For health reasons, we can never tell if a person carries sexually transmitted diseases by staring at her boobs or her butt. It will also prevent you from spreading it!

No costs involve. You don’t have to go the motel or pay a prostitute or buy some flavored condom. You don’t have to go out of the house either; bathroom is just a few steps away.Hahaha.
Its chismis safe, you can never go wrong. Hahaha! Keeps the neighbors’ eyes away and mouths shut.

Effective way of family planning without having to withdraw or use contraceptives.Aw!

Well, girls can also do the same (suggestion lang at bawal ma offend). Instead of fooling around, this actually might help for both parties.

I think psychologists/psychiatrists would agree on me about this but definitely not the church people. I don’t care about them anyway.

There are still so many reasons I can think of but I need to end this up. The bathroom is enticing me.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

My Favorite Pinoy Food (Ikalawang Lamon!)

Ado’s Pancit sa may Bambang (see picture of pancit serving above). They make the best pancit bihon syempre. Tsaka yung famous loming gawi nila. Bambang actually hosts small time businesses of “short order pancit”.

Alex’s Lugaw. Alex’s Lugawan serves the best lugaw and tokwa’t baboy still. Sa may San Nicolas yan. I frequent the place lalo na sa hapon para mag merienda.

Tapsilog sa Palatiw. The famous Tapsi sa Palatiw. Sarap ng mga “silog” menus nila. May free pang sabaw. May branches na sila sa Antipolo(?) and Maybunga aside from the original one sa Palatiw.

The famous dimasalang bakery sa Kapasigan. The best braso de Mercedes and pambonete. Sama na rin yung macaroons and pineapple upsidedown cake.

Syempre, my favorite, the Cristobal sisters. Ka Priscilla sa umaga with her yummy sopas and champorado. Ka Lily sa tanghali at hapon with her lugaw, palabok and lumpiang sariwa and pritong lumpiang toge. Tas sa gabi naman cooked food from Ka Jovet. Mouth watering ulams.

The street food sa may simbahan. Mani, kornik, chicharong balat ng manok, kwek-kwek, itlog pugo, squid balls, kikiam.

Dirty ice cream sa Sumilang! Yum!

Pasta!

El Polo Loco chicken, tortilla bread and Spanish rice.

Sbarro’s Zitti and Stuffed Pizza. Great big servings.

Kenny Roger’s famous chicken, cheese macaroni and buttered mushroom. Staple food ng mga UPeeps pag get together.Hehehe

Ang famous UP fastfood – Rodic’s Tapsi, BBQ at munggo ng beachouse. Chocolate Kiss. Mang Jimmy’s, Aristocart at kung ano ano pang available sa UP.

Dinuguan at Puto ng Goldilocks. Tsaka yung fresh lumpiang ubod.

KFC’s frech fries, still the best!

Eat all you can sa kamayan at dad’s. Last na kumain ako parang three weeks ata akong hindi makatayo sa sobrang kabusugan-kasibaan kase!

China Bowl ba yun? Yung sa may megastrip ng megamall? Basta yung Chinese menu nila.

Iba talaga sa Pinas. Lahat meron. Lahat swak sa panlasang pinoy!

PS: No foods were harmed during the making of this blog.
