Trip down memory lane (The famous and infamous people and characters, part I)

It’s really nice to reminisce the good old days. We can’t help but laugh on how we used to be and the things we used to do. Life is so naïve and simpler then. It's undeniable that 80’s was one of the best times in my life – being “paslit” and all.

Aminin natin, somehow na mi miss natin yung mga bagay na yun and we wish we could go back dun sa panahon na yun, but we can’t. Kaya lets just savor those precious times and replay them here:

Batibot – my all time favorite children oriented show. Sina kuya Bojie, ate Sienna, Pong Pagong, Kiko Matsing, Ning-ning and Ging-ging. Who could also forget Irma daldal at ang mga chuwariwap nya at si Direk!

Aga Mulach, Herbet Bautista, William Martinez, Raymond Lauchengco at ang mga leading ladies like Eula Valdez, Yayo Aguila, Jobelle Salvador. Ang jojologs pa nila dati at sobrang payat pa ni Ms. Liza Lorena dito.Hehehe.

Ang TV – young at heart ako.hehehe. 3rd year or 4th year highschool na ata ako nito.Until college pinapanood ko pa rin to. Crush ko nun si Marnie, the chincky eyed and braced girl na inglisera.

Eh kasi bata – RR Herrera, Kathleen Go Quieng, Aiza Seguerra and LA Lopez – Straight girl pa si Aiza Seguerra dito at asar na asar ako kay LA Lopez na mukhang mongoloid at super duper OA.

That’s entertainment – Na hooked ako dito because of my siblings. Manilyn Reynes, Tina Paner, Joed Serrano, Jestoni Alarcon, Caselyn Francisco, Chuckie Dreyfuss, Ruffa Gutierrrez, etc. May kanya kanyang bet kung sino pinaka magaling na group – Wednesday Group ako!Yikes!

Childstars – Andyan sina Aiza Seguerra, Glaiza Heradura, Lady Lee, Matet, the late Julie Vega, Atong Redillas, Jaypee De Guzman, Nino Mulach, Judy Ann Santos, Sunshine Dizon – ang cu cute pa nila noon!

To be continued…

I-Witness' "Isang paid, Isang Tuka"

Sobrang dishearting to see a child crying dahil sa pagka awa sa magulang nya and na forced cya to stop schooling and work so she could help her family.

Yung pag endure ng hirap at panunukso para kumita ng pera is so noble.

The family wanted to go back to Arayat, Pampanga kung saan talaga sila nakatira.

Dahil nga walang perang pamasahe pabalik ng Pampanga, I-witness helped them go back. They wanted to go back to pampanga since life is easier there and they wouldn’t have to be pabigat to anybody.

Nanlumo ako when I saw their house.

Syempre nga naman, mas mahirap ang buhay sa bundok and I guess natatakot cyan a once na pumunta cya dun andun yung possibility na hindi na cya makabalik sa lola nya at mahinto din sa pag aaral and be forced as well do work at an early age.

All they want is a home and food to eat. Simple things to survive.

Life is really unfair, but then I cannot question God for the kind of life we all have because I know there’s a purpose for that. I can only pray that someday, somehow, the sun will shine fairly to them, I hope.

Young Blood - Pornphan

By Jesus Rafael B. Jarata
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 02:19:00 10/14/2008

Nobody in class likes her. Every time she asks a question, even if it can be answered by a simple yes or no, her classmates just rudely ignore her.

But Pornphan still tries to be in with the group. If her classmates laugh at some hilarious blunder or absurdity, she also giggles, unmindful that the joke and laughter would soon be turned on her. But even when she feels embarrassed, she still tries to flash a brave smile.

I don’t know what keeps her going. At her age of 10, she should be running in a playground with friends chasing her under the heat of the sun, or she should be in the company of kids dressing up Barbie Dolls and paper dolls, or in an imaginary parlor pretending to be little hairstylist or manicurist, or in an imaginary market playing the role of a chatty food vendor selling cold juices made from crushed red bougainvillea flowers and leaves.

But I also cannot blame her classmates completely for behaving so coldly and roughly toward her. After all, they are still children, and Pornphan seems out of place with her Grade 5 classmates who are quite surprisingly much too concerned with the Barbie culture: how they look in their uniforms, accessorized with colorful headbands and sling bags.

Pornphan’s family is poor and it is her bad luck to belong to a class of well-off, bratty children. She comes to school in a dirty white blouse tucked into a pale blue crimp skirt, with an ordinary rubber band knotted in her usually damp hair and in an old pair of leather shoes. And she has a cheap pink stroller bag and wears a cheap yellow rubber wristwatch. How could a prosperous kid of her age like her?

Her skin is dark. She has long fingernails accented by black grime hiding underneath them. She is so small that you could almost mistake her for a Grade 1 pupil. She is skinny, disheveled, undernourished and almost pathetic.

But her eyes never show hopelessness. Carefree and cheerful, she is active and lively. And she loves making fun of some things, as if the world never laughs at her.

Pornphan is smart and has a sense of responsibility and leadership. That is why the class adviser gave her the special task of looking after their “special” classmate.

I am amazed by how Pornphan and this special kid can get along so well. They are the best of friends, and the teachers admire Pornphan for giving up her own “normal” happiness to play with her “special” classmate all the time. In the classroom, they are seated together and Pornphan acts as her tutor. During lunch, they share each other’s meal. They seem to find solace in their special friendship. They live every day in their own special universe, out of reach of the menacing arms of normal and harsh beings.

For Pornphan and many others like her, life is a constant struggle not just for survival but to belong. It is always a difficult journey for someone who looks unusual, unsightly, underprivileged and neglected.

I feel sorry for Pornphan who has to endure living in a place where being different is, to some people, intolerable and unforgivable. I admire her for her audacity in always standing up after being pushed down by the crowd. And I adore her for her eagerness to please others and to belong even if her efforts always prove futile.

But I wonder how she can discover her possibilities when her peers won’t even give her a chance to establish a human connection.

An Appeal From UP Alumni - From Ricky Lo's Philstar Column

Dear Alumni.

UP High School in Cebu is in danger of being phased out.

The school performs a very important service to the community.

By only admitting poor but very bright students (sons and daughters of farmers, street vendors, maids, fishermen, drivers, janitors, etc.), the school provides them a chance to grow, learn and be educated “the UP way.”

The Cebu Provincial Board has already passed a resolution opposing the planned closure of UP Cebu High. The City Council will pass its own resolution soon.

Your alumni board is also preparing a resolution and a manifesto of support for the continued existence of our alma mater. We will be asking for your signatures soon enough.
Meanwhile, let us continue to be vigilant.

Officially, the approval of the Bachelor/Master in Education (BBE-MBE) program is critical for the high school’s existence. However, the underlying issue is still resources.

Currently, UP Cebu is finalizing its four-college university plan and consequently, the building infrastructure plan. We have to make sure that the high school continues to be part of these plans, as they go through each level of the UP bureaucracy: Execom, Dean, UP Cebu, Chancellor, UP in the Visayas, Advisory Council, President and, finally, Board of Regents.

Justice Denied, Again

Kita mo nga naman how they implement the justice system in the Philippines. Sabi nga ng mommy ni Maureen Hultman, “this is the highest form of injustice” and I agree with her on this.

I wasn’t expecting such move form the government about this. Considering the so many wrong moves they did before.

Ligaya?

Ikinahihiya kita!

And yes, to the government officials, sana mas magkaroon kayo ng compassion to those who really suffered and deserving of that pardon. Two counts of reclusion temporal and one count of reclusion perpetua. Reclusion temporal’s charge is 17-20 years imprisonment and reclusion perpertua is around 40 years. Paano nyo masasabi na he already served more than half of his sentence, kalahati ng sintensya nya is around 40 years (simple math, kahit grade one kayang sagutin, nakaka 17 years pa lang cya minus the 4 years probation.

Ayan tuloy, parang in years time lahat ng mga controversial and influencial convicts e makakatikim na ng inaasam na kalayaan and those who have nothing will be left to suffer.

Tawanan Muna Tayo

galing sa suking internet

Have you seen a person with a killer smile, innocent eyes, sweet face, irresistible body and devastating sex appeal?
Sa Tagalog:
"Nakita mo na ba ako?!"

"When you want to make a difference… subtract."

In a normal person, the heart beats 70 times a minute, 100,800 times a day, 40 million times a year! During a single day, a ventricle pumps about 11,000 quarts or 265 million quarts a lifetime.
RELEVANCE? Ang SIPAG ng heart!
Pero… shit! Tanga naman…

"Hindi ako DINOSAUR! Hindi! Hindi! Hindi!" – THESAURUS

"Hindi lahat ng almusal ay nakabubusog." – SERMON

Bride: Ha? Hindi kaya mabingi ako?

Misis: Bakit gabi ka na?
Mister: Pasensya na. Nagyaya ang officemates ko. Nagkainuman lang.
Misis: Lasing ka, ‘no?!
Mister: Hindi!

– THERMOMETER
